Modernization Audit
Most small business owners know they should be modernizing something. What they don’t have is a straight answer about what, in what order, and whether it’s worth the money.
The audit is a focused 90-minute session, by phone, video, or in person, followed by a written report: a real look at how you actually run your business and where modernization would pay off most. Sometimes the answer is one of my services. Sometimes it’s a tool I’d point you to and you set up yourself. Sometimes it’s "your setup is fine, save your money." You get the same honest read either way.
What this looks like in practice
Say a landscaper comes in sure they need a chatbot. Sometimes the report says the opposite: the chatbot would barely move the needle, but the clunky three-page intake form is losing leads before they finish it. The fix might be a free Tally rebuild they do in an afternoon, plus a small Zapier flow I’d quote separately. Often the biggest wins in a report don’t involve hiring me at all.

What you are actually paying for
How the audit runs
Four stages, start to finish, usually inside a week from the day you book.
Before we talk
I do the homework first, so the 90 minutes is not spent on things I could have found on my own.
- Your website reviewed for what it costs you: speed, mobile behavior, and what a customer can and cannot do without picking up the phone
- Your Google Business Profile checked against what actually ranks for your work in your area
- A short intake so I arrive knowing what you sell, who buys it, and what has been frustrating you
The 90 minutes
Phone, video, or in person around the Utica and New Hartford area. Not a demo, not a pitch.
- A walk through your actual day: where the time goes, what gets re-typed, what falls through
- Where people drop off between finding you and paying you
- What you have already tried that did not stick, and why it did not
- The questions about AI you have not wanted to ask out loud, answered plainly
The report, within 48 hours
Written so you can act on it without me, and so it still makes sense six months from now.
- Findings scored and explained in plain language, not consultant vocabulary
- Named tools with rough cost and effort, including the free and cheap ones
- What is genuinely worth custom work, and what absolutely is not
- Anything I think you should stop paying for
The roadmap
Ordered by what pays off soonest for the least effort, not by what I would like to sell you.
- What you can knock out yourself in an afternoon, kept separate from what needs a build
- A sensible order, so one change does not undo the next
- Fixed-price quotes for the work you would want me on, priced up front
- Yours to keep: hand it to another developer if you would rather, and it still works
Common questions
Frequently asked
What if the answer is that I do not need anything?
Then that is what the report says. It happens, and it is a legitimate outcome. You will have spent $300 to stop wondering, which is cheaper than spending months and several thousand dollars finding out the hard way.
Is this just a sales pitch for your other services?
No, and the report is written so you can tell. Recommendations name specific tools, including free ones and ones you would set up yourself, and every item gets a verdict rather than a quote. Hiring me is one possible outcome, not the point of the exercise.
Why does this cost $300 when your discovery call is free?
They are different things. The free 30 minutes is a conversation to see whether I am the right person for something you already have in mind. The audit is work: research into your site and local presence before we talk, 90 focused minutes with you, and a written report and roadmap you keep.
Do I have to hire you afterward?
No. Implementation is optional and the roadmap is built to work without me. Plenty of the recommendations in a typical report are things you can do yourself or hand to whoever already maintains your site.
How long does the whole thing take?
One 90-minute session, scheduled when it suits you, and the written report lands within 48 hours of that call. There is nothing for you to prepare beyond a short intake.
Can we do this in person?
Yes, if you are in the Central New York area: Utica, New Hartford, Rome, Syracuse, and the surrounding Mohawk Valley. Otherwise phone or video works just as well, and most audits run that way.
What kind of business is this for?
Small businesses where the owner is still close to the day-to-day: trades, retail, professional services, local shops. If you have an IT department and a technology roadmap already, you do not need this.
I already know what I want built. Should I still do the audit?
Probably not. If you have a clear scope in mind, skip the audit and book the free 30-minute call instead. You will get a fixed-price quote faster and you will not pay for a report telling you something you already know.
